Born in 1957 in Hualien, Taiwan, he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Brooklyn College of City University of New York in 1989. After living in New York for nineteen years, he returned to Hualien in 2006 and settled there. His works have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions both domestically and internationally and are widely collected by art institutions and private collectors.
Yeh Tzu Chi primarily focuses on still life and landscape as his main creative subjects, which is both a thoughtful choice and the result of long-term, deliberate practice. In an era when image-recording devices are ubiquitous, realistic painting has transcended its simple function of reproduction and representation, integrating rich artistic meaning. For Yeh Tzu Chi, creating in a slow and solitary manner, steadfastly and persistently completing each piece, has undoubtedly become an important ritual in his life. This continuous creative process not only involves reflection, remembrance, and introspection of the past but also contains imagination and hopes for the future. The flowers, green mountains and white clouds, fluttering flags, and other subjects in his works have become fleeting landscapes in memory, carrying profound personal significance.
