Large-scaled paintings have always been one of my favorite forms of expression.
On a canvas, creating one’s own “garden” where one can stroll within and be engulfed, the artist’s passion and narrative, and even the restless breath within the painting can be sensed.
Generating forms from my observation of natural plants, and then utilizing a type of cognition to convert and change them through a process of intense labor (hand-drawing), I exhibit the vitality of plants, expressing their fierceness, tension, and “flowing” growth process. This type of life drill is similar to the treatment of space; from nothing to something, with replication of individual units to cover an entire space through layering, the image displays a sense of fulfillment and lushness like plants covering the land. This type of language has become my unique style element.
I have always been quite fascinated by the sensation of the endless cycle of rebirth. To a certain degree, this cycle is a representation of existence as well as an attitude towards life. In the process of toiling, one verifies the continuation of life, which is the equivalent to illustrating the movement of time. In life, a person suffers setbacks and loss as they search for fulfillment. The growth and decline of natural life provides a perfect reflection of this balance. It is exactly in this type of laboring creative process that I fully sense my life’s meaning, as well as experience the traces left by the movement of time. With that said, I hope that you will be able to sense this mood through my works.
