Hatano Izumi

Izumi Hatano has always worked with wood and hollow dry lacquer methods. His creative themes vary from human figures, sheep, war drums to everyday objects. The accessories or carcass of the sculpture are built by solid wood carving techniques. Raw lacquer and gold foil techniques make his work both contemporary and extremely Japanese.

波多野泉氏の彫刻は木彫と脱乾漆を用い、時には人物、時には羊や戦鼓、時には周りにある小物が創作主題となっている。作品の一部は堅実な木彫技法を駆使しながら、漆や金箔の使用で作品には現代性を帯び、日本らしさを味わえる。
