Liang Zhao-Xi
Born in 1953 in the British Solomon Islands, he graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1980 and currently resides in Paris. His works have been exhibited in the United States, France, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and he has frequently participated in group exhibitions at major art institutions both domestically and internationally. Influenced by early black-and-white films, Liang Zhao Xi chose charcoal as his primary medium. His subjects mainly include animals, plants, and still life, often focusing on a single theme, showcasing his solid foundation in drawing.
Liang Zhao Xi 's early charcoal drawings were characterized by dense, bold brushwork, creating a strong contrast between black and white and exuding a rich sense of drama. As his work evolved, his style gradually shifted towards a more refined and airy approach, with lively and dynamic strokes. This transition reflects not only the precision of Western realism but also the expressive charm of Eastern ink painting. This stylistic transformation imbues his works with a deeper sense of melancholy over the passage of time, creating a unique artistic atmosphere that invites contemplation of the profound meanings hidden within his pieces.
