SHINO - CHU KUN PEI Ceramics Exhibition
- Exhibition Concept
CHU KUN PEI has dedicated nearly forty years to the art of ceramics, with over thirty-five years focused on the development of Shino glazes. Throughout his career, he has introduced a variety of Shino glazes, from the early White Shino, Mouse Shino, and Painted Shino, to the mid-period Red Tan Shino and Honey Yellow Shino, and more recently, Demon Shino, Blue Demon Shino, and the latest Fiery Shino and Purple Shino. These glazes not only offer a warm and inviting visual and tactile experience but also evoke rich emotional responses from viewers, perhaps revealing the artist's own tranquility, serenity, melancholy, or joy during the creation process.
In recent years, ceramic artists have faced numerous challenges with glaze raw materials. The discontinuation of feldspar, the primary and most important ingredient in Shino glazes, and the variations in new materials have continuously tested the adaptability and endurance of artists. In his 2024 solo exhibition at Moonlight Gallery, Chu Kunpei will finally present Shino flower vessels after overcoming these material challenges. This long-awaited collection aims to provide a beautiful dialogue and connection with Shino, inviting viewers to experience its beauty firsthand.
